Salvador Dali Goes Fishing in Kansas

by Jennifer Litt

After a long day on the water, his brow
grows a pulley; his eyes stare like
a barbed catfish dragged up from the deep.
His handlebar mustache becomes
the whiskers he twitches to detect danger
or prey. He considers using melting clocks
for lures but knows they are capricious.
He blinks his brown eyes thrice and the clocks
become plastic, jiggly worms, which he knows
can hook the most elusive of critics.
